Tomorrow will be hold the elections of a new Head of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC). Though a month ago I couldn't believe almost two days in the news of Lyubomyr Huzar's becoming as the Archbishop emeritus instead of the Head of UGCC. Who can be the Head of UGCC, if not L. Huzar? Tomorrow it will be known. But I'm scaring a little bit. And even nowadays I can't understand all reasons of the post's leaving of L. Huzar. But ok, it was his decision. Lyubomyr Huzar is very clever and kind man, who always takes care about church and nation of Ukraine. I just very want to see another man on the head's post of UGCC, who also will be such religious, beautiful and careful person as L. Huzar was. The new Head will be elected by the bishops of UGCC, so Ukrainians may only pray for a good choice of the head.
Tomorrow's elections are really important, because Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was one of the main forces thanks to which Ukraine became an independent state. Soviet regime wanted to destroy UGCC during long time - from 1946 till 1989, when UGCC was in the underground. In that cruel atheistic soviet epoch Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was unique church for Ukrainians, where they could go and listen prayers in Ukrainian. Somestimes Ukrainians went into Catholic churches, but all liturgies were in Polish there. Ukranians also could go into Orthodox churches, but the few went there, because all knew that Orthodox priests were the agents of KGB too. What a sorrowful time it was! Just imagine, one day You decided to confess in the church, You came and confessed to priest (agent), and the next day KGB knew everything about Your confession's words...Sad time, I wish it never come back! In that time any person could be arrested only because of a few religious books at home. That's why Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was in the underground for many years. Men secretly studied on the priests and then they secretly were consecrated on the priests. All liturgies, marriages, christenings, dirges were secretly held at somebody's home. For examlpe, my parents were also married by Ukrainian Greek Catholic priest at their home. And I was baptized by Ukrainian Greek Catholic priest at home too. Such was that difficult time. And even then UGCC was alive church!
So tomorrow I only wish the best head's choice of all possibile for Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
